Material in its rawest form can be a beautiful as the most precious
of artefacts. Scale, form and weight all make the tangible, and in exploring
this, Fabrice Le Nezet is celebrating the physical. In the collection of work
‘Measure’, Fabrice transforms and presents concrete as an object of divine
beauty, held weightlessly on its pedestal, purity at its height.
She removes all notions of weight, scale and distance
creating a sense of disorientation.
The bright powder coated metal is vibrant and electric,
contrasting with the neutral concrete, creative a visual juxtaposition, yet
their secure holds on the precariously angled blocks are reassuring.
The simple shapes of the concrete catch the light,
transforming in volume. Forcing the viewer to study its material surface in
much greater detail than previous. We live in increasingly industrial
environments, constructed with the harshest of materials (concrete, steel,
glass). Beauty in its most conventional of forms are often hard to find in these
places but by altering the way in which we perceive materials within our
environments may be one step in changing the perception of industrialised
beauty. To see further examples of Frabric Le Nezet’s work follow the link http://www.fabricelenezet.com/ .
